Our Story

Three brothers, one standard

Brown Brothers Media began in 2020 with two websites and a simple observation: the internet did not need more content, it needed more publications — places with named editors, consistent standards, and a voice worth returning to.

The three of us came to publishing from different directions. Brendan built a professional editing practice in Melbourne, working line by line through other people’s manuscripts. Lachlan founded Hack Spirit and grew it into one of the most-read self-development sites on the web. Justin co-founded the digital media platform Ideapod and spent a decade at the intersection of ideas and audience.

When we pooled that experience under one roof, the model was clear: acquire publications with long histories of expertise and authority, and invest in them. That investment is editorial before it is anything else — modernising each title’s focus, expanding its readership, and growing the team behind it. Where a publication’s editors and direction are working, we keep them in place; more often, we add to them, bringing in editors, writers, and producers so that a masthead that once ran on one person’s energy has a full team behind it.

Today the house spans titles founded as far back as 1995 — Space Daily was reporting on the space industry from Tokyo before some of our writers were born — alongside magazines we built ourselves. We are based in Singapore, with a team of more than 25 editors, writers, designers, developers, and operators working across three continents.

What binds the portfolio together is not a topic. It is an editorial approach: write clearly, cite your sources, correct mistakes in the open, and treat readers like adults.

How we publish

Read the full standard

i.Named editors

Every publication has a masthead with named editors accountable for what appears under it. No anonymous content farms.

ii.Sources, linked

Factual claims are sourced and linked. Quotations are attributed. Studies are cited to the original research, not to someone else’s summary of it.

iii.Corrections, in the open

We correct errors quickly and transparently. Significant corrections carry a dated note on the article itself.

iv.Independence

Advertising comes through partners like Mediavine. Editorial decisions are never influenced by advertisers, sponsors, or outside parties.
