Our Story
Three brothers, one standard
Brown Brothers Media began in 2020 with two websites and a simple observation: the internet did not need more content, it needed more publications — places with named editors, consistent standards, and a voice worth returning to.
The three of us came to publishing from different directions. Brendan built a professional editing practice in Melbourne, working line by line through other people’s manuscripts. Lachlan founded Hack Spirit and grew it into one of the most-read self-development sites on the web. Justin co-founded the digital media platform Ideapod and spent a decade at the intersection of ideas and audience.
When we pooled that experience under one roof, the model was clear: acquire publications with long histories of expertise and authority, and invest in them. That investment is editorial before it is anything else — modernising each title’s focus, expanding its readership, and growing the team behind it. Where a publication’s editors and direction are working, we keep them in place; more often, we add to them, bringing in editors, writers, and producers so that a masthead that once ran on one person’s energy has a full team behind it.
Today the house spans titles founded as far back as 1995 — Space Daily was reporting on the space industry from Tokyo before some of our writers were born — alongside magazines we built ourselves. We are based in Singapore, with a team of more than 25 editors, writers, designers, developers, and operators working across three continents.
What binds the portfolio together is not a topic. It is an editorial approach: write clearly, cite your sources, correct mistakes in the open, and treat readers like adults.
